Valuable Tips on How to Protect Yourself
You can significantly lessen the chances of being a victim of Card fraud crimes by following some simple & helpful tips:
Your Card(s):
Sign your new American Express Card(s) as soon as they arrive and destroy your expired Card(s).
Notify American Express Middle East in advance of a change in your address.
Store your Card(s) in a secure place where you will immediately know if it is missing.
Carry your Card(s) separately from your wallet, in a zippered compartment, a business Cardholder, or another small pouch.
Keep a record of your Card(s) Account Numbers, their expiration dates, and our Customer Services telephone number in a secure place separate from your Card (s).
When you are expecting a New or Replacement Card(s), keep a sharp eye on the mail.
Report a lost or stolen Card(s) immediately.
Always keep your plastic Card(s) with you while travelling.
Don’t lend your Card(s) to anyone.
Don’t leave Card(s) or receipts lying around.
Don’t store full Card details e.g. Card Account Number, expiry date, CVV on any device, your details will be at risk if the device is lost, stolen or hacked.
Don’t give out your Card(s) Number over the phone unless you are making the call to a company you know is reputable to complete a purchase or a booking.
Don’t leave your Card(s) as a security deposit or as identification.
Don’t leave Card(s) unattended in a bag, briefcase, or jacket pocket in a public place, under your seat in a restaurant or a train. Instead, keep your bag or briefcase on your lap.
Keep a record of our Customer Services telephone number and reach to us as soon as you have any doubt.
Your PINs:
Never save your Card(s) and Personal Identification Number (PIN) details together.
Do not choose a PIN that is your phone number, Civil ID, CPR, Social Security, or date of birth.
Do not give out your PIN to anyone. If anyone asks you for your PIN, even if they claim they are from the bank or the police, s/he is most likely a fraudster.
Do not write your PIN on the card.
Your Card Account Statements & Receipts:

Save receipts to compare with your Card Account Statements. Open bills promptly and reconcile your Card Accounts monthly, just as you would check your Bank Account statements.
Report any questionable charges immediately by calling our 24-hour Customer Services number on the number available at the back of your Card.
Monitor your Card(s) Account activity online to stay up-to-date and check for irregular activity.
Always store Card Account Statements & receipts securely. Once not needed, destroy them using a shredding machine.
Do not sign a blank receipt. When you sign a receipt, draw a line through any blank spaces above the total.
Your Passwords:
Do not share your AEME online access credentials with anyone.
Keep your passwords secret.
Make them hard to guess.
Vary them and change them regularly.
Never write them down.
When Using an ATM
Be vigilant when using an ATM, especially at night.
Ensure you have your Card ready before you reach the ATM, and be wary of anyone who might be watching you enter your PIN. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by anyone.
Read the transaction carefully before accepting it on the ATM.
Ensure you collect your Card, money dispensed, and transaction receipt before you leave the ATM.
Check if the ATM is being physically tampered with by external fittings, loose wiring, or any strange devices. If this occurs, report it to American Express or the ATM's bank.
Do not accept assistance from a stranger standing next to the ATM, even if they are wearing a bank uniform.
Shield the screen and keyboard when making a transaction to avoid shoulder surfing.
If you have doubts about the machine when conducting a transaction, cancel the transaction immediately.
When Buying at the Store
Avoid handing your card away to the merchant to complete any purchase, you have to personally tap or insert your card.
Never leave receipts behind where someone could pick them up and gain access to your details.
Never let anyone put your Card Number on any document not associated with purchases on your Card Account.
Keep an eye on your Card every time you make a transaction, if it’s handed over ensure to get it back as quickly as possible.
Always ensure that the Card returned to you is yours. It is easy for sales staff to give you the wrong Card when they are in a hurry.
Ensure you void and destroy any incorrect receipts for declined or failed transactions immediately.
When charges on your Card are made manually, please take your copy of the charge slip and destroy any papers if used.
